Friends! Our little free library is up and available for you to take and leave your favourite books. I have wanted to do this for so long… and I finally convinced Mike to help me take on this project!!
I just think these free libraries are such a great way to share books within your community!
Okay, since everyone is so super interested in creating their own library, I have put together the plans that we used to create our library. – I’m so happy that people want to add more of these libraries to their town!
Cape Cod Little Free Library Plans
What you will need: Most of these items can be purchased at your local hardware store.
1- 1/2 Sheet of 3/4″ Plywood
2 Ashphault Shingles + Roofing Nails
Air Gun + Nails
2 – 2″ Brass Hinges
2 -1″ Brass Slide Bolt Lock
White & Black Paint
1- 4″x4″ 6ft Pressure Treated Post
Stain for Post
Post Half Face 4″x 4″ Mounting Bracket
Weather Stripping for door
Step 1: Cut Cape Cod Plans out of plywood.
Step 2: Nail Cape Cod Plans together using an air nail gun.
Step 3: Cut out door measurement on front of library.
Step 4: Caulk all interior and exterior edges of the library.
Step 5: Paint all cut outs including door. – I painted the base of the library white and the roof, door and frame black. Don’t forget to paint the interior of the library too.
Step 6: Shingle roof.
Step 7: Add Plexiglass to the library door. We attached ours with screws. (Pre-drill first).
Step 8: Add all hardware and attach the door to the library.
Step 9: Add puck lights to the interior roof of the library.
Step 10: Dig a 3ft hole and place your 4″x4″ post in it.
Step 11: Attached the post half face mounting bracket to the post and screw down the library.
Step 12: Stain the post.
Step 13. Add weather stripping to interior of library door. This will prevent any bugs or weather elements form entering the library.
Step 14: Registry Library. You can register the library here.
Step 15: Fill library with all the books and enjoy!
